IOM Expert Delivers Insightful Guest Lecture on Human Migration for SPD312 Comparative Welfare Course

On February 25, 2025, Dr. Helene Syed Zwick, Head of the Migration Data and Research Unit at the International Organization for Migration (IOM), delivered a thought-provoking guest lecture for the SPD312 Comparative Welfare course at the Faculty of Social Administration, Thammasat University. The session, titled “Human Migration and Relativistic Welfare Impact,” provided students with an in-depth understanding of migration dynamics, policies, and their social welfare implications in Thailand and the ASEAN region.
Dr. Helene engaged students in insightful discussions, shedding light on cutting-edge research and real-world challenges concerning both regular and irregular migration. The lecture explored key issues such as migrant rights, border policies, labour migration, and the socioeconomic impact of migration on host and origin countries.
Students actively participated in discussions and debates, sharing their perspectives on current migration trends and policy responses. The interactive nature of the session enriched students’ understanding of the complexities surrounding migration and welfare systems.
