The success of the SPD Social Change Youth Leaders Outreach Program (cohort 1) led to an interactive community learning event on Sunday 7th May 2023. SPD, in collaboration with APPA, a private institution on educational support, organised the SPD Social Change Youth Leaders Outreach Programme (Cohort 2) at Samut Sakhorn province for 37 high school students from various schools. Participating schools included Shrewsbury International School, Harrow International School, International School Bangkok, Triamudomsuksa School, Chiang Mai International School, and Patumwan Demonstration School.
In the morning, students visited Labour Rights Promotion Network foundation (LPN) to learn about issues related to migrant workers. The students also engaged in experience sharing and English teaching activities with young migrants. In the afternoon, they were guided by migrant workers in exploring a Myanmar migrant community near the Thai Union factory. After collecting information in the morning and afternoon, students brainstormed and analyzed possible causes for the migrants’ problems and suggested policy recommendations with their team, SPD professors and senior students. This provided them with an opportunity to experience SPD teaching methods, gain a deeper understanding of social issues through group work, and develop teamwork skills, analytical skills, and leadership skills.
Special thanks to LPN, APPA, Ajarn Ohm, Ajarn J, Ajarn Mahesh, Ajarn Kevin, and Ajarn Yeji, Pang, Thorfan, Jenny, Joey, Jom and Mika, our students who significantly contributed to this trip.
