Being of Karen ethnicity, I feel it is vital for me to serve my Karen indigenous community through committed work with a civil society organization, so I rejoined the Karen Environmental and Social Action Network (KESAN) that I had worked with previously, now as organizational monitoring and evaluation officer. As monitoring and Evaluation Officer I am responsible for tracking progress and overall impacts of the projects implemented by KESAN ensuring their effectiveness, efficiency, and sustainability. KESAN’s work is aimed at empowering indigenous Karen communities in securing peace, protecting the environment, improving livelihoods, and gaining respect for Karen indigenous people’s rights and culture in Karen State, Myanmar. The diverse range of topics that I studied with the Social Policy and Development Program (SPD) provided me with very relevant insights and skills in social analysis. I apply the knowledge acquired at SPD on a daily basis at my work and I believe this can be converted to substantive and positive social change.
