SPD Students Explore Hong Kong
Academic Insights and Cultural Treasures
From May 11 to 13, 2024, students from the Social Policy and Development (SPD) programme embarked on an overseas field visit to the Department of Applied Social Sciences (APSS) at Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Renowned as the largest social science department in Hong Kong, APSS facilitated an enriching experience for the visiting students.
During their time at APSS, students were introduced to the department’s extensive support systems, which include the China and Global Development Network and the Professional Practice and Assessment Centre. These schemes and mechanisms are pivotal in APSS’s efforts to foster global development and professional practice.
Prof. Juan CHEN, the Associate Head, Associate Director of the Mental Health Research Centre (MHRC), and a distinguished professor at APSS, provided an insightful presentation on the department’s initiatives and research. This was followed by an engaging discussion session with the students.
The campus tour, coordinated by Mr. Joshua Kan from Hong Kong Polytechnic University, allowed students to explore the facilities and gain a deeper understanding of the university’s environment.
On May 11, the students also visited the Hong Kong Museum of Art, enriching their cultural and educational experience.
The field visit was led by Ajarn Dr. Mahesh Chougule, who ensured a productive and informative experience for all participants.
