SPD Insightful Disaster Logistics Management Field Visit

The Social Policy and Development programme (SPD) took bold steps to empower students to develop insightful disaster logistics management knowledge at Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Regional Office 16th (DPM 16) and Disaster Emergency Logistics System for ASEAN (DELSA), Chainat Province, Thailand

On 18th April 2023, the SPD programme took a group of students enrolled in the SPD 441 Disaster Management and Social Interventions and SPD 446 Special Topic in Social Policy and Development courses on a visit to DPM 16 and DELSA in order to learn more about humanitarian assistance in disaster management at the national and ASEAN regional levels. The students had a fruitful discussion about the importance of effective logistics in disaster relief and the challenges of the process. They were also given a tour of the facility and were able to observe first-hand the operations of DELSA and how they manage the logistics of getting necessary resources to affected areas in the event of a disaster.

We would like to thank Mr. Natchanon Sonprasert, director of DPMM 16, for taking time out of his busy schedule to give a presentation and share his experiences with the SPD students. We believe this enables students to better understand the importance of disaster management.
